In 2011, Matt Grieve and Stephen Hill met one fateful night in Edinburgh, Scotland. They were introduced at a party through a mutual friend and bonded there and then over a shared obsession with music, particularly Frank Zappa. It was love at first listen.
There was an early attempt at creating the music written by Matt in the form of a 5-piece called Plastic Babies. They disbanded in December 2013 and there was a hiatus until … In 2014, the trio of Matt, Stephen and Daniel decided they’d continue forward as a 3-piece under a different guise. Instantly realising they were onto something special, they spent a few months rehearsing new material and re-imagining some previously performed songs.
The Mink Stoles were born. They’ve spent recent months recording at Chamber Studio in Edinburgh with exciting results. Their poppy brand of progressive space rock fuses many genres switching seamlessly between melodic multi-vocal pop songs, psychedelic freak-outs and folk-tinged garage rock. Inspired, amongst many others, by Pixies, the Flaming Lips and Neil Young.
